THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK - 6th JULY 2010

'Forbidden fruit creates many jams.',

Lust: desiring something in our hearts that we cannot have.

We can have desires for many things but when that desire is for something or someone forbidden it is lust.

Our hearts can lead us astray. Yes it’s true;

Proverbs 28:26 says “He who trusts in his own heart is a fool

Jeremiah 7:23-24 says: “But this is what I commanded them saying ‘Obey My voice and I shall be your God and you shall be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well with you. Yet they did not obey or incline their ear but followed the counsels and dictates of their evil hearts and went backward and not forward

We are new creations in Christ Jesus but this example from Jeremiah is good for us to learn from.

God’s guidance is for our good, v23“... that it may be well with you

Lust is very dangerous. Firstly, in our hearts and thoughts, and sometimes results in dominating our behaviour. Then if desire is worked out in our life through our choices it will destroy and steal from us and others. Families and relationships can be destroyed, people crushed, trust lost, our own bodies damaged, hurt deep down within us, our witness voided and the hurt that comes from knowing we messed up and sinned against God.

John 10:10, Jesus says: “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly.

Ask the lord to help you know truth in your inward parts (Psalm 51:6).

Ask Him for the truth of the situation you find yourself in. Our desires can fog the truth.

Think about what you are thinking about. (Proverbs 23:7)

Be very careful your thoughts do not lead you astray but take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ(2 Corinthians 3:5).

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK - 14th JUNE 2010

'Faith is daring the soul to go beyond what the eyes can see.'

The Psalmist speculated about whether there was anywhere that he could go where God would not be.

As scientists find more amazing ways to look further and further across space, more amazing images come back via the Hubble telescope. A few years ago scientists got to the stage where they were able to look more closely at what they call the M51 "Whirlpool Galaxy" which is situated some 31 million light years away. As they zoomed their telescopic lens into the very centre of that huge Galaxy the picture above was what the Hubble telescope sent back to us. (It has not been touched up in any way) Even as we strain our eyes across the universe, trying to see what is out there; what we find is the image of the God of all creation.

The Psalmist cried out :

PSALM 139:7-14 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me," even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

The Psalmist asked the question "Where can I go from your Spirit?" The answer that Psalm 139 gives is "NOWHERE". The Living God is always there. Whatever troubles you, he is there. Whatever guidance is needed, he is there. In every Joy and in every trouble his arm is not to short to reach out to you. God's promise to each one is that He will be with us always, to the very end of the age (Matthew 28:20).

How far will your faith take you today?

Science helps us see images from so far away and yet it takes faith to see within those images the thumbprint of God.

We don't have to look 31 million light years to see evidence of God's presence. Take a look around you today at all that the Lord has done, not just in creation but also in your life and give thanks for the amazing beauty all around you.

Remember, "FAITH IS DARING THE SOUL TO SEE BEYOND WHAT THE EYES CAN SEE".

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK - 7th JUNE 2010

'God did not do it all in one day. What makes you think you can?'

We live in a society that expects everything NOW. We are no different, we get frustrated just waiting in a queue at McDonalds. Fast food isn’t fast enough for us.

They say that a New York minute is the time it takes (about 2 seconds)for the driver behind the first car in a queue at traffic lights to beep his horn because the car in front has not moved off when the lights turn green.

We often overestimate what God should do with us in one year and serious underestimate what God wants to do with us over five years.

GOD'S WORD SAYS :

MATTHEW 6:25-27 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

MATTHEW 6:33-34 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Do not worry - Trust in the Lord with all your heart.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK – 31st MAY 2010

'If God seems far away, who moved?',

If each day we take a step away from God it won’t be long before we look around us and exclaim “Where is he”.

PSALM 73:23 Yet I am always with you; you (God) hold me by my right hand.

The Psalmist knew what it was to have slipped away from God, he describes how even if we envy others, are embittered, grieving, God is always faithful and true. He is our guide in every situation. Like a dad he wants to take hold of us by the hand and lead us in right ways.

If you have let go of his hand, stretch out to him today and let him take hold of you again.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK - 24TH MAY 2010

Did you know that the combined growth of all the hairs on the average human head is about 30m (100ft) in a day, or 11km (7 miles) in a year.

The Bible says that God loves you so much that he knows every part of you and rejoices.

Matthew 10:30 Even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
